The Kalyan Taluka Police have booked seven people for allegedly gang-raping a 21-year-old woman after administering an injection to her. The accused have been identified as Shabnam, Zeenat, Guddu, Gulfam, Liyakat, Ali Irani, and an unidentified person. All of them are currently absconding.
According to the police, the victim lived with her grandmother and cousin in the Balyani area of Titwala, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Kalyan Taluka Police Station. She worked as a labourer at a construction company and was acquainted with the accused, Zeenat and Shabnam.
On March 19, following a scuffle with her family members, she left home and began residing with her friends Zeenat and Shabnam, who also worked at the same construction company. After staying with them for 10 days, she informed them of her decision to return home. Subsequently, both women called Guddu, who arrived by car.
Police said Gulfam accompanied Guddu. The two women told the victim they would drop her home, but instead, they took her to a chawl near the NRC company under the pretext of some work. There, Shabnam injected something into her neck, causing her to lose consciousness. She was then taken to Liyakat's room in Rambaug, Kalyan, where she was raped by the accused. Later, she was taken to Irani’s room, where she was repeatedly raped for four to five days.
On May 3, she was found crying after being locked in a room. An unidentified man who heard her cries rushed to the scene and unlocked the door. She then returned home and narrated the entire ordeal to her family. On May 6, she approached the police and filed a complaint.
Suresh Kadam, senior police inspector at the Kalyan Taluka Police Station, said, “We have registered an FIR based on the victim’s complaint. A team has been formed to apprehend the accused, and a manhunt is underway.”
