The annual Jagannatha Rath yatra or Chariot festival started today at sector 5 in Kharghar. The Jagannatha Rath Yatra is the biggest festival of Odissa and the Oriya community celebrates with great enthusiasm and fervour. Due to the Covid outbreak, there was no Rath Yatra for two years.
After a gap of two years, Maharashtra Oriya Welfare Association in association with Shree Jagannath Mandir is organising the Jagannatha Rath Yatra festival at Hari Hara Peetha in Kharghar. According to the organizer, artisans from Orissa made a 31 feet chariot to carry Lord Jagannatha, Lord Balabhadra and Mata Subhadra to Gundicha Ghar.
The procession will commence from the temple at around 12.30 pm on Friday.
It is the belief that the Lord is going to his aunt’s house and after spending seven days there, he will come back to his original place.
On day one, on July 1, Shri Gundicha yatra, Rath yatra will commence at 1 pm with a grand procession. A devotional and cultural program will be held from 7 pm to10 pm. Devotees can enjoy mahaprasad from 9 pm onwards.
