Mumbai: In a tribute to the legendary Maratha ruler, the Indian Railways is launching the 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Circuit' — a 6 day five-day night heritage train tour that will take history enthusiasts on an unforgettable journey through Maharashtra's most iconic landmarks associated with the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The tour, scheduled to begin on June 9, 2025, will offer an immersive experience, providing passengers the opportunity to visit historical forts, temples, and monuments linked to the Maratha king's remarkable legacy. Starting from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, the train will cover significant destinations such as Raigad Fort, Lal Mahal and Kasba Ganapati, Shivsrushti, Shivneri Fort, Pratapgarh Fort, Panhala Fort, Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga, and Mahalakshmi Temple in Kolhapur
Raigad Fort was the site of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's coronation (Rajyabhishek) and served as the capital of the Maratha Kingdom. Lal Mahal was the childhood residence of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Kasba Ganpati is the presiding deity of Pune and holds the honor of being the first Ganpati idol installed by Rajmata Jijau and Shivaji Maharaj.Shivsrushti is a unique initiative showcasing the life, achievements, and legacy of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Pratapgad Fort was built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is known for the historic battle between him and Afzal Khan, which took place on 10th November 1659. The fort also houses a famous temple dedicated to Goddess Tulja Bhavani, built by Shivaji Maharaj. Panhala Fort, also known as the 'Fort of Snakes' due to its zigzag structure, is closely associated with the lives of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj. It is remembered for the heroic bravery of Baji Prabhu Deshpande, the loyal commander who played a crucial role during Shivaji Maharaj’s escape and the capture of the fort.
This special heritage train is part of the Bharat Gaurav Tourist Train initiative, aimed at promoting cultural tourism and showcasing India's rich history. The six day five nights itinerary will provide guided tours of historic sites, each with deep ties to Shivaji Maharaj’s life, offering passengers a unique chance to walk in the footsteps of this great warrior king.
Travellers can choose from three categories: Economy (Sleeper Class) at Rs. 13,155, Comfort (3AC) at Rs. 19,840, and Superice (2AC) at Rs. 27,365, all inclusive of GST, meals, and guided tours. Single travelers will share accommodations with others, ensuring an affordable yet comfortable travel experience.
Tour Itinerary Overview:
Day 1 (09th Jund ): Depart from Mumbai (CSMT) to Mangaon, visit Raigad Fort, then travel to Pune for an overnight stay.
Day 2 (10th June): Explore Pune’s historic sites like Lal Mahal, Kasba Ganpati, and Shivsrushti. Overnight stay in Pune.
Day 3 (11th June): Early morning visit to Shivneri Fort (Shivaji Maharaj’s birthplace), followed by a trip to Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga Temple. Return to Pune for an overnight stay.
Day 4 (12th June): Depart for Satara to visit Pratapgarh Fort. After sightseeing, continue the journey by train to Kolhapur.
Day 5 (13th June): Visit Kolhapur’s Mahalakshmi Temple and Panhala Fort before returning to Mumbai.
