Mumbai: A massive traffic jam on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway from Mira Road to Naigaon leaves commuters stranded for over six hours on Saturday, as reported by X users. The Vehicular movement came to a complete halt near the Ghodbunder Road intersection, the worst-affected stretch, causing widespread chaos and frustration.
With the Mumbai-bound lane completely jammed, several drivers were seen dangerously moving on the wrong side to escape the gridlock. Social media platform X was flooded with visuals of the traffic nightmare, with users highlighting the lack of response from authorities and the growing inconvenience to daily travellers.
According to posts shared by many users on X, the issue was widely reported, with commuters expressing anger over the lack of traffic management. One user tagged the Mumbai Traffic Police account @MTPHereToHelp, writing: “Please send help at Ghodbunder Road intersection from Mumbai Ahmedabad Highway. Heavy traffic jam since 6 hours. Vehicles not moving at all.”
Another commuter shared:
“Traffic nightmare on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway from Mira Road to Naigaon. Movement on the wrong side, as the Mumbai side is jam-packed with no way forward & as usual, authorities are sleeping.”
Many users blamed the worsening situation on poor infrastructure, lack of proper traffic management, and road maintenance failures. The Ghodbunder Ghat stretch, in particular, has become notorious among locals as a consistent traffic bottleneck.
“Ghodbunder Ghat and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway take at least two hours to get through that dark red zone. 15 km takes 3 hours. It has always been this bad, but in the last few weeks, it’s become a nightmare to travel for work,” a regular commuter posted.
Several netizens urged fellow travellers to avoid the route or plan their journeys accordingly, warning of increasing delays. The issue also sparked discussions on the long-term failure to upgrade one of the city's most crucial roadways.
Hashtags like #Traffic, #Crumbling_Infrastructure, and #MumbaiTraffic started trending locally, amplifying the voices of those stuck and demanding swift action from authorities.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by the traffic or civic authorities regarding the cause of the jam or measures being taken to resolve the situation. With the highway playing a critical role in connecting Mumbai to major cities like Ahmedabad, commuters are now demanding urgent, long-term solutions to avoid repeated chaos on this vital route.
