Fun Turns Fatal! 2 Children Drown In Virar Lake During Casual Swim, One Rescued By Locals

Virar: A casual swim turned into a tragedy for three children in Virar East on Thursday evening when two of them drowned in a lake, while the third narrowly escaped death thanks to the quick response of local residents.

Deceased Duo Identified

The incident occurred at a lake in the Gaspada area near the Papadkhind Dam. The deceased have been identified as Vivek Munlapuri (10) and Manish Sutar (11), both residents of Prathamesh Nagar, reported Hindustan Times.

According to Virar police, the three children had ventured to the lake for an afternoon swim, unaware of its dangerous depth. Once they entered the water, they quickly found themselves struggling to stay afloat.

Hearing cries for help, locals rushed to the scene. They managed to save one of the boys, pulling him to safety just in time. However, despite their best efforts, Vivek and Manish could not be rescued.

2 Bodies Recovered After Brief Search Operation

The fire department was alerted immediately and personnel were dispatched to the site. After a brief search operation, the bodies of the two children were recovered from the lake. Virar Police have registered an accidental death case and are conducting further investigations into the matter.

3-Yr-Old Boy Drowns In Thane

In a similar incident reported recently, a three-year-old boy drowned after accidentally falling into a water tank at a residential society on Ghodbunder Road in Thane. The incident took place on February 11 while the child was playing in the society premises, having accompanied his mother to visit a relative's house, according to a report by news agency PTI.

Police officials stated that the boy slipped into the water tank while playing. When his family couldn't find him, they launched a frantic search throughout the premises. Their worst fears were confirmed when they discovered the child in the tank.

The family immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The boy’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The Kasarwadavali police have registered a case of accidental death and are conducting further investigations into the incident.
