Thane: An 18-year-old car driver was booked by the Chitalsar police for causing the death of a 40-year-old pedestrian at Pawar Nagar junction in Thane on Wednesday night, at around 9:50 pm. Inspector Vanita Patil from the Chitalsar police station stated, "The car, driven by an 18-year-old male, struck Varun Anilkumar Sharma (40), a resident of Ashwood building at Acme Ozone in Manpada, Thane. Sharma was rushed to Bethany Hospital in Thane, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival."
Patil further added, "The body has been sent to a government hospital for postmortem. We have filed a case against the car driver under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act."
An anonymous source revealed, "The 18-year-old boy is a student at VJTI, and although he was taken to the Chitalsar police station, he is currently on the run. His photo has been circulating on social media, but he remains at large."
