Mumbai: Mumbai contributed 36 cases, Pune had 9, Thane recorded 24, while other regions like Kalyan, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, Ahilyanagar, Nagpur, and Panvel reported a few cases each contributing to Maharashtra's 86 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total active cases to 383.. Since January, a total of 8,868 samples have been tested, resulting in 521 confirmed COVID-19 detections, with a notable spike in May where 343 cases were reported. The state has also witnessed six COVID-positive deaths, all involving patients with serious underlying conditions.

Surveillance activities have been intensified to catch new COVID-19 infections. As of late May, Mumbai's daily average of new infections has risen to 11. Health experts are urging caution as they classify the situation as endemic, recommending rational testing and care while ensuring vulnerable populations are protected.

In the broader state context, Maharashtra averages 3.5 daily cases, with Thane recording a significant uptick, including a recent increase of 12 cases. Hospitalization remains limited, with most patients experiencing mild symptoms, though one recent fatality linked to underlying conditions was noted. Officials continue to stress the importance of timely diagnosis and isolation to manage the situation effectively.

Maharashtra conducted 8,868 Covid-19 tests over the past five months, revealing a positivity rate of 5.87%. New cases reported on May 28 included 9 in Pune, 4 in Navi Mumbai, 4 in Panvel, and several others in Kalyan, Ahmednagar, Raigad, and Nagpur.

The state currently has 383 active cases, with 132 recoveries recorded since January. Health authorities remain unperturbed as hospital admissions are low, with most patients recovering in three to four days.

Maharashtra reporting five deaths linked to pre-existing conditions. IMA urged vigilance, proper testing, and protective measures, advising against antibiotics misuse, especially as respiratory illnesses rise during monsoon.
