Mumbai: The cab driver from Chennai who was arrested by Mumbai Airport Customs on Tuesday for allegedly smuggling Hydroponic Weed worth Rs 90 lakh from Bangkok has revealed information about his handler. The said handler had given an all expenses paid Bangkok trip and promised Rs 20,000 for successful delivery of consignment, agency sources said.

According to the Customs sources, specific intelligence was received that one passenger Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib might be carrying some narcotic substance covered under Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, concealed in his baggage.

The said passenger who had arrived at CSMI Airport, Mumbai from Bangkok on Monday was intercepted after he had crossed green channel. Upon opening his check-in bag Customs officers found four packets containing a green coloured dry leafy substance in lump form which later tested positive for Hydroponic Weed, a substance covered under NDPS Act. Based upon the reasonable belief that Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib has committed an offence, he was arrested under the provisions of NDPS Act.

Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib told Customs officials that he is working as driver on rented call taxi earning Rs 20,000 monthly. "On 18.04.2025, he had gone to Bangkok from Mumbai Airport on the instructions of his handler, Tamim Roslan, a Chennai resident, who financed all the expenses of Bangkok trip. Tamim had informed Sangish Khan Kuppai Kani Khan Sahib that he would receive one trolley bag for carrying it to India. He further instructed the accused to call him after coming out of Mumbai Airport along with trolley bag and he would send flight tickets to Chennai. Tamim Roslan further told him that after receiving intimation of coming out of Chennai Airport, he will send someone to collect trolley bag and to give Rs 20,000 for successful delivery of the trolley bag," said a Customs official.
