Mumbai: In the on-going investigation related to the arrest of two accused including Senior Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Central Excise) officer of the 2007 batch Amit Kumar Singal, presently posted as Additional Director General, Directorate of Taxpayer Services, New Delhi, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches at various premises and recovered substantial assets and incriminating material, including approximately 3.5 kg of Gold and 2 kg of Silver, valued at around Rs 3.5 crore; cash amounting to Rs 1 crore approximately; Documents of a locker and 25 bank accounts with various banks; and Documents of immovable properties and assets located in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab.
The arrested persons have been identified as Amit Kumar Singal, Senior Indian Revenue Service Officer of 2007 batch, presently posted as Additional Director General, Directorate of Taxpayer Services, New Delhi and Harsh Kotak (private person).
A case was registered by CBI on 31.05.2025 against the said accused on allegations that accused public servant demanded illegal gratification of Rs 45 lakhs from the complainant in exchange for extending favourable treatment from the Revenue/Income Tax Department. The demand was accompanied by threats of legal action, imposition of heavy penalties, and harassment in case of non-compliance.
CBI laid a trap and caught accused private person red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakhs from the complainant on behalf of accused public servant at the public servant’s residence in Mohali. Accused public servant was apprehended from his residence in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
Both accused were arrested and produced before the designated Court on 01.06.2025 and the Hon’ble Court sent both accused to Judicial Custody for 14 days.
