'Behaviour Is Inappropriate': Maha CM Fadnavis Reacts To Sena MLA's Slapgate, Says 'Necessary Action Will Be Taken' |

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (Shinde fraction) MLA Sanjay Gaikwad, who is always in controversy for various reasons, was seen behaving like a goon in the MLA Niwas canteen. Sanjay Gaikwad slapped, punched and abused an employee of the legislators' canteen for allegedly serving stale food in the MLA Niwas canteen. The video of the slapgate has sparked outrage across the state several opposition leaders demanding his immediate resignation.

Raising the matter in the assembly, opposition Sena UBT leader Anil Parab demanded the suspension of Gaikwad to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Responding to Sena UBT MLC Anil Parab in the assembly, CM Devendra Fadnavis admitted that MLA Sanjay Gaikwad’s behaviour was inappropriate and has created a negative perception about all legislators among the public. "I have taken note about this matter. Such behaviour is not right. It was learned that the vegetables had a stink. But beating someone for it is not right."

"It is not right for people's representatives to resort to assault. It lowers the dignity of all MLAs. Such incidents send a wrong message to the people. Therefore, the Speaker should decide whatever action can be taken in this regard and we will take," he added.

Viral Video Of MLA Sanjay Gaikwad

On July 8, MLA Sanjay Gaikwad from Buldhana ordered food at the MLA residence's canteen in Mumbai. He received stale dal and rice, prompting him to confront the canteen manager about the poor quality. Gaikwad, who had previously raised concerns about the food, expressed his intention to bring the issue to the House. In a fit of anger over the bad meal, he physically assaulted a canteen employee, leading to a viral video of the incident.

MLA Sanjay Gaikwad Justifies His Action

Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad criticized the Akashwani canteen for serving poor-quality food, citing issues like stale, unhygienic meals, including 15-day-old eggs and insects. Despite being a patron for 30 years, Gaikwad's personal experience with the food prompted him to urge others to verify its quality.

He asserted the necessity of providing clean food, calling current conditions a health hazard for the 5,000-10,000 patrons. He expressed frustration over the government's inaction despite repeated complaints. When questioned about striking the canteen staff due to the food's appalling condition, Gaikwad stated he would react similarly again. This incident highlights the ongoing political tensions surrounding food quality and regional identity in Maharashtra amid an active legislative session.
