Mumbai: The Dongri Police have arrested a 46-year-old Bangladeshi woman for illegally residing in India without valid documents. The arrest took place on the morning of May 3 in the Wadi Bunder area, following a tip-off. The woman was identified as Rubina Nazimuddin Shaikh, a native of Jessore district, Bangladesh.

The operation was conducted by a team led by API Parimal Patil, along with constables Shinde, Deshmukh, Jadhav, and Sagar Vishnu Patil. Acting on specific information, the team spotted the woman near Musafirkhana, dressed in a yellow kurta-pyjama, and detained her for questioning.

Upon checking her mobile phone, officers found WhatsApp messages indicating ongoing contact with her family in Bangladesh. Further investigation revealed that the birth certificate she carried had been issued from 24 Parganas, West Bengal. In addition to the certificate, she also possessed an Aadhaar card, PAN card, and voter ID — all of which raised suspicions due to discrepancies in birth dates and inconsistencies in the personal details.

During interrogation, Rubina admitted that she had crossed the border due to financial difficulties and had been living in India illegally. She claimed the forged Indian documents were provided by an unknown individual after she entered the country.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Foreigners Act. She is currently in custody, and further investigation is underway.
