In a major twist in the Baba Siddique murder case, the Mumbai police have said that they have, so far, not found any involvement of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and that his brother Anmol is running a separate gang.

The police made the startling statement before the special MCOCA court, while seeking the custody of the 13 accused. The prosecution claimed that Anmol is operational in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and “trying to establish his supremacy as the gang leader”

Besides, the police said that they have found several small connections leading to Anmol's involvement and that there is a need to build an entire chain of communications and links. They said they have found that Anmol had sent Rs40,000 to accused Nitin Sapre and that the financial aspect linked to the case needed to be probed.

Defence lawyers – Sidhart Agarwal, Kunal Khopade and Roopesh Jaiswal – opposed the custody plea, arguing that the police haven't categorically mentioned the role of the accused.

Even though the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act law was invoked later, the accused had been interrogated by the same officer, who quizzed them in the police custody earlier.

The 13 accused have been sent to police custody till December 16.
