Navi Mumbai: In the Ashwini Bidre murder case, Panvel Sessions Court today heard the submissions by the slain cop's daughter, brother, father and husband on the sentencing and compensation, followed by the arguments on sentencing by the public prosecutor and defence lawyer. The sentencing has been pushed to April 21.

A decade-long case of Inspector Ashwini Bidre finally found justice on April 9. Assistant Police Inspector Ashwini Bidre was murdered on April 11, 2016, by Senior Police Inspector Abhay Kurundkar. On April 5, 2025, a Panvel court convicted Kurundkar and two accomplices in the case.

Speaking to The Free Press Journal after the hearing, Suchi Gore (16), daughter of the late Ashwini Bidre, shared her sentiments on the loss and the family’s expectations for justice. Her father, Raju Gore, also spoke to the media alongside Public Prosecutor Gharat, expressing hope for a verdict that honours Ashwini’s legacy and provides closure to the family.

Raju Gore, who was a Maharashtra Navnirman Sena activist, started getting less involved in political activities and dedicated his time only for his daughter. “My only focus was to give all my time to my daughter. I would step out of the house only when she was in school, and once she is back, I would be with her all the time. In functions and social gatherings wherein I was invited with my daughter, I would refrain from taking her with me to avoid any uncomfortable situation and questions before her,” Gore said.

About The Case

The accused, Senior Inspector Kurundkar and Assistant Police Inspector Ashwini Bidre, were reportedly in a relationship. On the night of April 11, 2016, Kurundkar allegedly murdered Ashwini in Mira Road. He then allegedly dismembered her body using a wood-cutting machine and stored the pieces in a freezer. The body parts were placed in a sack and dumped into the Vasai creek.

The next day, after Ashwini went missing, a missing person complaint was filed at the Kalamboli Police Station on July 14, 2017. When it was revealed that Kurundkar was involved in her disappearance, a kidnapping case was filed on January 31, 2017.
