Mumbai: At a time when many are finding it difficult to make arrangements for their daily necessities, an Andheri west resident has taken up the responsibility of feeding nearly 250 families every day.

Simran Bapu has been helping Covid-affected families and individuals based in Andheri (west) locality with their one-time meal (for free) for more than two months now. Simran, who is also a dietician, is not only cooking the meal, but also getting it delivered at their doorstep.

Simran has appointed two chefs who cook the meal regularly following which, the food is packed and then delivered to the beneficiaries by her own driver.

“Two of my extended family members have succumbed to Covid-19; many of my family members also got infected with the virus in the meantime. I have seen how the disease affects the livelihood of people from close quarters, which is why I decided to help the people whose livelihood has been affected due to the virus, in any whatever way I can,” Simran told FPJ.

“We are only providing one meal for the night and my service is open for anyone who is struggling during these testing times. I supply food not to just Covid-affected families, but also to underprivileged people who have lost their source of income due to the pandemic,” she said.

Simran also mentioned that her service is not just limited for those staying at Andheri west and many people living beyond this locality also visit her to collect food packets. “The food is being prepared at my kitchen where the chefs carry out the cooking and I oversee the whole operation and take calls from the beneficiaries and coordinate with them,” she said.

“As many as 180 packets are delivered to the doorstep by my driver and close to 50 packets are being collected from my apartment by beneficiaries living beyond Andheri west,” Simran added.

Simran said that she has been doing this for more than two months now and continue to do so for sometime. “As of now, I have plans to continue this for two more months as long as the pandemic lasts so that I can be able to help the people who don't have any means to afford their bread and butter presently,” she said.
