Mumbai: From distributing food to essential medicines and extending financial aid, there have been several good Samaritans who are doing their bit to help the ones in need during the ongoing Covid pandemic. But, this Mumbai resident is helping people stay in the pink of their health during the pandemic. Dr Mahesh Vasantarai Sanghavi, 65, from Ghatkopar is distributing a homemade immunity booster for free of cost.
“During the first wave, we were clueless about the virus and which medicines would work. And, when it was revealed that immunity plays a key role in keeping the virus at bay, I created an immunity booster (kadha) after doing a lot of research — this was distributed among 15,000 people,” said Dr Sanghavi. In the second, they converted the concoction into tablets and so far, have distributed over 1.5 lakh of them to help people boost their immunity.
After the outbreak of the pandemic, Dr Sanghavi started collecting funds for medical aide. Initially, he distributed cotton masks to frontline workers in the MMR region. Later, he concentrated on supplying Covid-related medicines followed by distributing food packets.
“Due to my experience and contacts, I never fell short of funds,” said Dr Sanghavi. Dr Sanghavi has been engaging in social work, especially during natural calamities, whenever there was need. He also visited visited Bhuj after the earthquake and Kedarnath post the deluge. “I became a part of the relief operations and that knowledge has certainly helped me,” said Dr Sanghavi.
