AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi launched a fierce attack on Pakistan over the recent terror incident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, where 26 people, mostly tourists, lost their lives. Speaking at a public meeting in Parbhani, Maharashtra, on Sunday, Owaisi condemned Pakistan’s role, likening the attack to the barbarity displayed by terror groups like ISIS.

Owaisi criticised Pakistan for boasting about its nuclear capabilities while engaging in acts of terror against innocent civilians. He questioned the morality behind such attacks, stating that targeting people based on their religion and killing them on Indian soil was akin to the actions of extremist outfits.

Without naming specific groups, he stressed that no religious justification could be offered for such brutality. "You talk about being a nuclear power, but no country will stay silent when its people are murdered on its own land," Owaisi said, underlining that any government would respond firmly to such provocations.

Firing From Pakistan Side On LoC

The attack on April 22 in Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam is considered one of the deadliest in the Kashmir valley since the 2019 Pulwama tragedy. In response, tensions have flared along the Line of Control (LoC). Indian Army officials reported retaliating effectively to multiple instances of unprovoked small arms firing by Pakistani troops across Kupwara, Poonch and Rampur sectors between April 26 and 28. The Indian forces responded with prompt and decisive action, aiming to deter further provocations.

Meanwhile, security operations have intensified across the Kashmir valley following the Pahalgam killings. Anti-terror activities have been ramped up, with forces maintaining a heightened alert across vulnerable regions.

NIA Takes Over Probe

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which had deployed teams to Kashmir immediately after the attack, formally took over the investigation on Sunday. In its statement, the NIA mentioned that they were closely examining eyewitness accounts to reconstruct the sequence of events. Detailed questioning of witnesses is underway to gather critical evidence that could help trace the perpetrators and uncover the larger network behind the attack.

Amid rising tensions, India has taken a series of strong measures against Pakistan. After a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on April 23, the central government decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan, close the integrated check post at the Attari border, and revoke all visas issued to Pakistani nationals. These actions signal a hardening of India's stance and reflect the gravity of the situation following the attack in Pahalgam.
