Thane: A video shared on social media by X user @s_r_khandelwal has gone viral, showing massive overcrowding on Platform 4 of Thane railway station. The video was shared by the user on Saturday. The footage captures people struggling to board the foot overbridge, with many reportedly enduring suffocating conditions for nearly 20 minutes due to the heavy rush.
The user captioned the video:
"And when you avoid road traffic and decide to take the train. Such scenes at Thane station platform 4. 20 minutes of suffocating time just to board the bridge." The video highlights the intense crowding near the foot overbridge at the Thane station.
The post sparked strong reactions from netizens, many expressing concern over crowd management at the station. One user remarked, "Reminds me of the Parel stampede of 2017." Another criticised the railway authorities, saying, "DRM Mumbai CR still caught sleeping with silly reasons like 2 trains arrived at the same time."
Responding to the viral post, railway authorities replied:
"For necessary action escalated to the concerned official @drmmumbaicr." Further, the authorities shared the video and pictures from the site, explaining: "Rush was due to the arrival of 2 local trains at the same time. The situation is normal now. We regret the inconvenience caused." They mentioned.
Several other netizens reflected on the long-standing nature of such crowding issues. One commented, "30 years back also the situation was the same and now also. You create various transport systems within the city, but this chaos won’t reduce unless all these platforms, Bridges on all stations are again constructed with a wider width. When these stations were constructed. The Engineers and the Station Authority didn’t reckon on the situation 100 years in future. The problem is we don’t have forsee the challenges coming in future."
Another commuter highlighted the worsening traffic situation for those travelling from Kongaon to Kalyan station. The user shared, “It took me one hour and 10 minutes yesterday to reach Kalyan station from Kongaon. The traffic was crazy.”
