After the tragic terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam that left 26 dead- including 25 tourists and a local horse guide- Instagram influencer Tanya Mittal’s comments stirred heated debates across social media.

Addressing the sensitive issue, Mittal said, "Terrorism has no religion," emphasising unity and calling for empathy during these difficult times. She also shared that during the chaos, local Kashmiris helped her friends safely reach Srinagar. Post this video, Tanya faced backlash from her followers, who questioned her intention and beliefs.

Clarification on Madhya Pradesh tourism connection

Soon after Mittal’s remarks, sections of social media erupted in anger, with many users demanding a boycott of her content. Some even alleged that she was associated with the Madhya Pradesh tourism & Uttar Pradesh tourism department as a brand ambassador. However, both tourism authorities promptly issued a statement clarifying that Mittal holds no official association with the department.

UP tourism department said, "*Important Public Notice:* It is hereby clarified that Social Media Influencer Ms. Tanya Mittal holds no official role, endorsement, or affiliation with the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh. Any claims suggesting otherwise are entirely false, misleading, and without any basis in fact. It is strongly advised to disregard such assertions and treat them with the utmost caution."

Madhya Pradesh Tourism stated, "Please note that Ms. Tanya Mittal is not associated with MP Tourism in any capacity."

Law enforcement responds to online posts

In the broader fallout of the Pahalgam attack, Madhya Pradesh Police intensified action against individuals sharing provocative material online. In Damoh district, two youths were arrested for allegedly uploading inflammatory Facebook posts. Meanwhile, police in Jabalpur booked another individual for posting objectionable comments related to the attack.

Addressing the controversy, Tanya Mittal reiterated her stance, stating, "At a time like this, our only religion should be Bhartia- being Indian. We must stand together." She highlighted how humanity transcended all divisions when locals risked their own safety to help tourists during the crisis.

The attack in Pahalgam

The attack, targeting one of Kashmir’s most popular tourist destinations, has sent shockwaves across the country. Tourists who had been enjoying the picturesque landscapes were attacked by terrorists and shot dead, resulting in significant loss of life.

This attack raised questions over the country's security and nation demands an answer to loss of innocent victims who were on a family vacation to Baisaran valley in Kashmir's Pahalgam.
