From marathons to mountain trails, fitness icon Milind Soman continues to prove that age is just a number when it comes to staying active and exploring the outdoors. Known for his disciplined wellness regime, the 59-year-old supermodel-turned-actor recently opened up about his passion for trekking and it's every bit as inspiring as you would expect.

'Trekking is a big thing for Maharashtrians'

In a quick chat with The Free Press Journal, Milind spoke fondly about how his love for the outdoors stems from his roots.

Speaking on the monsoon trek in Maharashtra, the supermodel expressed, "Trekking is a big thing for Maharashtrians. For people living in Maharashtra. I mean, in the Sahyadris, it's very beautiful. We have hundreds of forts—you know, hundreds of years old. They're all beautiful, great locations. Especially in the monsoon, the Sahyadris are so beautiful. So, yeah, I trek there as well."

But it's not just local trails that excite Milind. He shared that he is particularly drawn to lesser-known, remote destinations. "Mostly I like to go to exotic places and trek there," he added, with his trademark passion.

Kedarnath Climb

In June, Milind and his wife, Ankita Konwar, undertook an unconventional trek to Kedarnath, choosing the longer, more challenging route over the standard pilgrimage path. In two days, the duo trekked to Kedarnath from Chaumasi through Kham Bugyal over the 14,000 ft Hathni Col.

Sharing his experience from the Kedarnath trek, Milind expressed, "Just a week before that, we went to Kedarnath... But we chose another way, which very few people go by, which goes up to 15,000 feet and then comes down to Kedarnath at 11,000. So, that's more fun. Off the beaten path. So, we don't see other people. It's all nature. It's all green."

Mawryngkhang – Meghalaya's 'most challenging' trek

Back in April, the couple explored Mawryngkhang in Meghalaya, a lesser-known but breathtaking route often dubbed the "most challenging" in the state due to its dizzying bamboo bridges suspended over deep gorges.

"I had a great time on the trek to Mawryngkhang in Meghalaya today!!" Milind shared on his Instagram, calling it "one of the prettiest treks I’ve ever been on, and not too crowded. Will be back."

The trek, which takes 3 to 5 hours depending on fitness levels, is considered a must-do for adrenaline junkies and nature lovers alike.

So, if you ever needed motivation to dust off those hiking shoes, let Milind’s wanderlust-fuelled trail tales be your sign.
