The residents of this region spoke various languages, including Marathi, Gujarati, Kutchi, and Konkani.
Recognising the linguistic and cultural diversity among these regions, the States Reorganisation Commission recommended that states be established based on language. As a result, Maharashtra was created as an independent state, with Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) designated as its capital.
