Jeff Bezos, the Amazon founder and one of the world’s wealthiest individuals, proposed to longtime partner Lauren Sánchez in May 2023. The intimate moment took place while the couple was vacationing on Bezos’s lavish three-masted sailing yacht, Koru. True to his reputation for grand gestures, Bezos hid the engagement ring beneath Sánchez’s pillow after the couple enjoyed a romantic dinner under the stars.
In an interview with Vogue, Sánchez recalled that she discovered the ring while getting ready for bed, after removing her makeup. “When he opened the box, I think I blacked out a bit,” she shared, capturing the emotional rush of the surprise engagement.
A rare and radiant pink diamond
While many initially assumed her engagement ring featured a cushion-cut white diamond, Sánchez clarified that the centerpiece is actually a rare pink diamond with a soft rose hue. Though she didn’t disclose its exact size, experts shared with Vogue that the estimate size of impressive stone could be around 30 carats-making it one of the more extravagant celebrity engagement rings in recent memory.

The pink diamond is set on a delicate, cathedral-style pavé band, which is most likely made of platinum to support the gem’s weight. It features four prongs on each side for security, and hidden pavé diamond halos add extra sparkle beneath the center stone, enhancing its brilliance from all angles.
Embracing a new identity: Mrs. Bezos
Following the engagement, Sánchez also revealed that she plans to take Jeff Bezos’s last name after their wedding. “I am looking forward to being Mrs. Bezos,” she said. Reflecting on the change, she added, “I think there are a lot of opportunities that come with that, and I take those opportunities very seriously.”
Sánchez also emphasised their strong partnership. “We always look at each other and go, ‘We’re the team.’ So everything’s shared,” she explained, highlighting the unity and mutual respect that underpins their relationship.
