'Art Unbound,' the latest exhibit at Gallery FPH, Free Press House, opens its doors to the public, offering a vibrant and thought-provoking showcase of works by neurodiverse artists. This powerful collection transcends traditional artistic boundaries, highlighting the unique perspectives, emotions, and creative expressions of individuals whose neurodivergence shapes their artistry in remarkable ways.

Noted film maker Amol Gupte and President of The Free Press Journal Abhishek Karnani were among those present at the opening of this exhibit on February 1st. The exhibition, which has works by six artists, will continue till February 15.

About the exhibit

The exhibit features a diverse array of mediums, from bold, abstract paintings to intricate mixed-media installations, each piece telling a story that challenges conventional narratives around art and identity. "Art Unbound" is more than an exhibit-it’s a celebration of diversity, resilience, and the boundless nature of human creativity.

“This exhibition has two main goals: to spread awareness and build inclusivity in society and to create economic and professional opportunities for neurodiverse young adults and children by showcasing their art. We aim to build an ecosystem where these budding entrepreneurs can break stereotypes and be appreciated for their genuine talents rather than viewed with sympathy,” Dr Purva Khandelwal, a special needs parent and curator of the exhibition explained.

The exhibition honors the richness of creativity and the uniqueness of individual expression. It embraces the concept of 'neurodiversity', which emphasises that there’s no one standard for how a brain should work. Every artwork reveals a personal narrative, providing insight into the artist’s thoughts and emotions.
