As Ramadan approaches its last week, Muslims globally look forward to Eid-ul-Fitr, the joyous festival that signifies the conclusion of a month of fasting from sunrise to sunset. Seen in numerous cultures and countries, Eid-ul-Fitr is more than a religious occasion; it represents a worldwide celebration of togetherness, thankfulness, and kindness. From the importance of dates to the timings for moon sighting, here’s all you should know about this unique celebration.

When Will Eid Be In 2025?

Muslims globally are anticipating the announcement of the date for Eid al-Fitr as the sacred month of Ramadan approaches its conclusion. The timing of the Eid festivities will rely on the sighting of the new moon. The duration of Ramadan, whether 29 or 30 days, will rely on the observation of the Shawwal crescent moon. As Islam adheres to a lunar calendar, the end of a month occurs in the religious calendar.

Eid-ul-Fitr Crescent Observation In India

If the crescent is seen on March 30, Muslims throughout India will observe the end of Ramadan and celebrate Eid on Monday, March 31, 2025. As the Hijri, or Islamic lunar calendar is observed traditionally, the formal announcement regarding Eid-ul-Fitr will arrive only once the crescent moon is observed. If the moon isn’t visible on March 30, then the celebration will take place on April 1.

Usually, India observes Eid-ul-Fitr a day later than Saudi Arabia. The crescent of Eid is typically first observed in Saudi Arabia and certain regions of India, as well as some Western nations.

Eid-ul-Fitr Crescent Observation In Saudi Arabia

On March 29, sky enthusiasts will seek the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia. Should the moon be sighted on Saturday, Eid will take place on Sunday, March 30, in Saudi Arabia. Alternatively, it will be observed on March 31 and in India on April 1.

Eid-ul-Fitr In the US, UK, UAE, And Other Nations?

The US, UK, France, and Germany adhere to local moon sighting reports from Saudi Arabia. In the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, the crescent moon of Shawwal will be sighted on the 29th or 30th day of Ramadan 1446 AH, aligning with March 29 or 30.
