Summer is here, and what better way to kick off the hot season than with a fresh new haircut? Whether you're looking to beat the heat, try something bold, or simply switch things up, choosing the right hairstyle for your face shape can totally transform your look. But let's be honest, picking the right cut can be a bit tricky. That's why we've turned to Hair Expert and Founder of Vous Salon, Sneha Jhaveri, to share her expert advice on selecting the best haircuts for every face shape.

So, whether you’re rocking a round, oval, square, or heart-shaped face, we’ve got you covered with the perfect cut to match your vibe this summer!

Oval Face Shape: The Breezy Bob

If you're blessed with an oval face, where your forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are all well-balanced, you're in luck. According to Sneha, "You can pull off almost any haircut," making it easier to experiment with different styles.

For the summer, Sneha recommends the breezy bob as the go-to cut. "It's a collarbone-grazing cut that keeps your hair light and manageable in the heat," she shares. This versatile style allows you to easily switch up your look. You can wear it sleek and polished for a more chic vibe or add soft waves for an effortlessly tousled, beachy look.

If you're looking to add a bit of edge, Sneha suggests asking your stylist for face-framing layers. "They'll enhance your cheekbones and give your bob a little more structure," she explains.

Round Face Shape: The Textured Pixie

For those with a round face, which tends to be almost equal in width and length with softer angles, the key is to create height and elongation. Sneha says, "A textured pixie is my go-to recommendation for round shape." She explains that the added volume on top of this style gives the illusion of length, while the choppy layers provide movement, preventing the cut from looking too "rounded".

If you're feeling a little more daring, Sneha suggests incorporating a side-swept fringe to add even more definition to your face. "A pixie in summer? Absolute bliss!" she adds.

Square Face Shape: The Shoulder-Length Shag

When it comes to square face shapes, where the strong jawline is the highlight, Sneha suggests focusing on softening the angles. "For my clients with a square face shape (hello, strong jawline!), I always lean towards softening the angles," she shares. Her go-to recommendation? A shoulder-length shag with plenty of layers. The tousled, undone look of a shag is great at breaking up sharp lines, creating a more balanced, softer appearance.

Sneha also loves adding curtain bangs or wispy layers to enhance the look further. "It’s fun, playful, and, most importantly, low-maintenance—perfect for summer styling."

Heart-Shaped Face: The Chin-Length Lob

For those with a heart-shaped face, characterised by a wider forehead, high cheekbones, and a pointed chin, Sneha advises a cut that adds fullness to the lower half of the face. "If you have a heart-shaped face, you want a cut that adds fullness to the lower half of your face. You can try the chin-length lob," she says. This slightly longer bob lands right at the jawline, creating balance and complementing the forehead.

To keep things effortlessly chic, she suggests adding soft waves or a side part. And for an extra summery touch, "subtle face-framing highlights can enhance the cut’s movement beautifully," she notes.

Long Face Shape: The Blunt Bangs Bob

Lastly, for those with a long face shape, Sneha emphasises the importance of creating width to balance out the length. "The trick is to create width and reduce the appearance of length," she explains. Her go-to recommendation for a long face shape is a chin- or collarbone-length bob paired with blunt bangs. "The bangs help visually shorten the forehead, while the structured bob keeps everything looking polished and fresh," she shares.

This style is not only flattering but also a statement-maker. "It’s sleek and stays put, even in the summer humidity," Sneha concludes.
