In its first year since opening, The Energy Revolution: The Adani Green Energy Gallery at the Science Museum in London has welcomed an impressive 700,000 visitors. This cutting-edge exhibit showcases groundbreaking advancements in renewable energy, emphasising the urgent need for a low-carbon future.

Launched on March 26, 2024, by Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL), the gallery aims to educate the public on sustainable energy solutions. With free entry, visitors can immerse themselves in interactive displays and real-world applications of green technology. The gallery illustrates how global energy generation and consumption can be transformed to combat climate change.

Curator-Led tours and industry insights

As per PTI reports, over the past year, more than 40 curator-led tours have been conducted, engaging organisations such as the Climate Change Committee, the Met Office, the World Energy Council, Universcience, and various UK government departments. These tours provide deeper insights into decarbonization efforts and the transition toward sustainable energy.

The gallery has gained recognition for its commitment to sustainability, winning the prestigious 2024 Brick Awards in the innovation category. One standout exhibit is the world’s first 100% hydrogen-fired brick, which has been transformed into a unique bench within the gallery. This exhibit highlights a pioneering approach to low-carbon brick manufacturing, demonstrating an 81-84% reduction in carbon emissions compared to traditional natural gas-fired bricks.

Decarbonisation tracker

One of the latest additions to the gallery is an interactive Decarbonisation Tracker, which displays real-time data on the carbon intensity of Britain’s electricity supply. The tracker shows the grams of CO2 released per kilowatt-hour of electricity over the years, with 2024 recording the lowest emissions to date. The exhibit will continue to monitor and present data on UK emissions until 2035, according to PTI.

Designed by award-winning architectural firm Unknown Works, the gallery itself is a testament to sustainability. Recycled aluminium was used wherever possible, and shelving units from the Science Museum’s former object store were repurposed to reduce waste. The entire project’s carbon footprint has been closely monitored to ensure minimal environmental impact.

A greener future

As one of the world’s largest renewable energy companies, AGEL operates over 13 gigawatts of wind, solar, and hybrid renewable energy projects. Through this gallery, AGEL continues to drive awareness and action toward achieving net-zero emissions. Visitors leave not only informed but also inspired to play a part in the global shift towards cleaner energy sources.
