Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On the introduction of ‘One Nation One Election’ bill by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, MP Shankar Lalwani called it the need of today and the demand of the time.

In a statement MP Lalwani said that due to Lok Sabha, Assembly, Municipal Corporation or other elections in the country, the model code of conduct remains in force for about 150 days in a five-year term. Due to this, many important decisions and development works get delayed.

According to an estimate, about Rs 20 crore man-days are spent in elections and this puts a burden of more than Rs 6,000 cr. on the government treasury. Apart from this, the time of a large number of government officials is also affected.

MP Lalwani thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this historic and visionary initiative and said that the bill will accelerate the development of the country. Through ‘One Nation, One Election’, efforts are being made to take concrete steps towards conducting simultaneous elections in the country. This is a historic initiative and the country will benefit from it.
