'NTF Is A Group Of Elitist, Fails In Addressing Doctors' Security Issues At Grass Root,’ Says IMA President Dr. RV Asokan | ANANDSHIVRE

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indian Medical Association President Dr. RV Asokan condemned the National Task Force (NTF), constituted by the Supreme Court to give recommendations on the safety of doctors, and termed it an ‘eye washer’ which fails in addressing the safety and security issues faced by the doctors at the grassroots level.

“NTF is just a group of ‘elitist’ whose recommendations are majorly focused on the security of large hospitals but nothing about the security of doctors in small hospitals located in the towns and villages,” he said.

Dr. Asokan was talking to Free Press during his visit to the city on Sunday.

“The only solution to all the security issues is the Central Law for the protection of doctors. It will help in giving an assurance to the doctors at any level and anywhere across the country, a sense of security. We have given our recommendations and will raise it before the Supreme Court as well,” he said.

NEET is injustice to the students

Criticising the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), he said, “For a diverse country like India, it is only fair that the education system is in the hands of the state governments. NEET is an exam for elite students and nourishing the expensive coaching culture across the country.”

He added that “NEET is against social justice and denied opportunities to students from socially disadvantaged groups and aspirants from rural regions. Medical education must only be in the hands of state governments, and equal opportunities should be given to all as students who cannot afford expensive NEET coaching centres cannot take the exam.”

IMA docs to sign declaration of not taking ‘commission’

Dr. Asokan said that IMA also plans to expose the doctors taking commission from diagnostic centres and decided to bring out a declaration to all its members.

“It would be a voluntary declaration, and IMA will promote it in which doctors declare that they do not take the commission from any centres. Doctors will display the same as well. Those who won’t sign the declaration will be exposed by themselves. We cannot take action on them as we are not a statutory body,” the IMA president said.
