Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The vibrant Malwa Utsav is currently enchanting Indore at Lalbagh, blending art, heritage, and flavour into one grand cultural experience.

Drawing visitors from across Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring states, the event is a colourful showcase of India's rich traditions.

The craft fair, which opens daily at 4 pm, features more than 350 artisans from all corners of the country. Highlights include black iron sculptures from Chhattisgarh, brass idols of Lord Shiva and Buddha, dry flower arrangements from Nagaland, handwoven Maheshwari sarees, and finely crafted carpets from Uttar Pradesh.

Cultural performances have added to the festival’s charm. Andhra Pradesh’s Rajmundry troupe impressed with “Vaira Naachyam,” a devotional fire dance. Bundelkhand’s “Naurata” ritual, performed by unmarried girls seeking ideal partners, offered a glimpse into regional customs.

The Baiga tribe from Dindori energized the crowd with the spirited “Baiga Karma” dance, while Gujarat’s Rathwa artists dazzled with human pyramid formations. Kathak renditions by Shweta Srivastava and her troupe portrayed royal tales of Malwa and the ten avatars of Vishnu with grace and intensity.

The food court has been another major draw, offering a delightful range of regional delicacies - from Malwa’s dal-bati and matka kulfi to Gujarati, South Indian, and Mumbai street food favourites.

Organised by Lok Sanskriti Manch, the festival continues through May 11, with upcoming performances of Ghoomar, Chhau, Panthi, and traditional Garba on the calendar.

Coordinators Kanchan Gidwani, Mudra Shastri, Ritesh Patni, and their team are at the helm, ensuring smooth execution and a memorable experience for all.
