Dhar (Madhya Pradesh): A nationwide discussion and consultation conference under ‘One Nation One Election’ initiative concluded on Sunday at Vikram Sabhagrih Auditorium in Dhar.
The conference was organised by Union Minister of State and Dhar-Mhow MP, Savitri Thakur. The event was chaired by former Union Minister Vikram Verma with Pushyamitra Bhargav, Mayor of Indore, delivering the keynote address.
The programme aimed to discuss the benefits of holding simultaneous elections across India. It was attended by key figures including BJP District president Mahant Nilesh Bharti, MLA Neena Verma and District Panchayat president Sardar Singh Meda.
During discussions, it was emphasised that ‘One Nation One Election’ would reduce election-related costs, ease administrative burden and strengthen democracy.
Thakur highlighted that simultaneous elections were practiced until 1967 but were later separated, causing inefficiencies. Former Union Minister Vikram Verma spoke on how frequent elections are detrimental to the country’s economy, with the cost of multiple elections severely impacting national development.
Pushyamitra Bhargav, the chief speaker called the initiative a historic move for India’s future, aligning it with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.
The conference highlighted the need for constitutional amendments to make ‘One Nation One Election’ a reality. Several prominent social workers and intellectuals also attended, discussing how the reform would positively impact governance.
