Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): A case of medical negligence came to light after 35-year-old Jyoti Oswal of Chinai Rojdi died following a kidney surgery at a private hospital run by Christian missionary in Khandwa.

She was admitted on May 21 with kidney-related issues and underwent surgery soon after. However, her condition deteriorated post-operation. She died on June 16.

Police have registered a case of negligence against Dr Sheikh Wajid of St Richard Pampuri Hospital, who performed the surgery. Criminal lawyer Rochak Nagauri confirmed Wajid has been booked under IPC Section 106(1) for causing death by negligence.

CMHO Dr OP Jugtawat acknowledged the findings but stated that no action had been recommended yet against the hospital’s management.

Jyoti’s husband, Manoj Oswal, said that after kidney surgery, she developed severe infection that spread to her legs, forcing doctors at Aurobindo Hospital, Indore—where she was later referred—to amputate both legs.

Devastated by the turn of events, the family approached collector Rishav Gupta, prompting the CMHO to launch an inquiry. The investigation found that essential pre-operative tests, including blood and urine tests to assess kidney function and identify possible complications, were not conducted before surgery.
