Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In an initiative to raise awareness about the importance of higher education for girls, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) will organise a cycle rally from UTD campus in Indore to Maheshwar on March 22.

The rally, which will cover a distance of 98 kilometres, is aimed at encouraging girls, particularly those from rural areas, to pursue higher education instead of discontinuing their studies after school.

DAVV vice chancellor Dr Rakesh Singhai will lead the cycle rally, which will also include 25 teachers and students.

“The increasing percentage of girls leaving education after school is a serious cause of concern for society. Education is the key to making them self-reliant. Through this initiative, we want to connect them with educational institutions and encourage them to continue their studies”, said Singhai.

The rally, scheduled to begin at 7 AM, is perhaps the first such initiative taken by the university at its own level.

Colleges to join awareness drive

A unique aspect of this campaign is the involvement of colleges along the Indore-Maheshwar route, including both private and government institutions.

These colleges will play an active role in bringing female students to educational institutions and spreading awareness in their respective areas.

Health & safety measures for participants

The VC said that given the long journey and high temperatures, strict health and safety measures had been put in place. Participants were required to submit a fitness certificate after a medical check-up.

Besides, a team of doctors and an ambulance would accompany the rally to provide any necessary medical assistance. Breaks would be scheduled at regular intervals to ensure the participants could rest, he said.
