Indore: Woman Ends Life Over Property Dispute; Brother-In-Law, Nephew Booked

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A man and his sister's son were booked for abetting suicide of his sister-in-law in Banganga police station area, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on April 9 when the 48-year-old woman committed suicide by consuming some acidic substance due to ongoing harassment and threats over a property dispute by the accused.

According to the police, the deceased was identified as Kalpana Yadav, a resident of Bhagirathpura. In her dying declaration, the deceased Kalpana alias Kanta said that for the last two years, there was a dispute going on between her and her brother-in-law Nandkishore and nephew Ashok over the division of property in Bhagirathpura and they were harassing her over it. During the investigation, the allegations were found to be true.

The police registered a case against the accused under sections 108, 3(5) of the BNS and further investigation is underway.

Husband, in-laws booked for woman’s dowry death

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Hira Nagar police booked five members of a family, including a man, his parents, brother and sister-in-law, for his wife’s dowry death, police said on Thursday. The accused allegedly had mentally and physically harassed the woman for dowry, leading her to take the drastic step.

According to the police, the deceased, identified as Priya Singh Tomar (22), a resident of Sagar Vihar Sukhliya, had committed suicide by hanging herself at her place on March 30.

During the investigation and after taking statements from the deceased’s family members, it came to light that the deceased Priya had told her family members that since the marriage her husband Vijay Singh Tomar, father-in-law Surat Singh, mother-in-law Mamta, brother-in-law Chetan Singh Tomar and sister-in-law Kavita used to harass and trouble her frequently for not bringing dowry and were pressurising her for dowry.

To get rid of regular harassment, she took the drastic step. The couple had a love marriage in 2021 and have a three-year-old son.

The police registered a case against the accused under sections 80, 3(5) of the BNS and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
