Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore police, on Wednesday, have booked a man and his four family members for allegedly subjecting his wife to dowry harassment and later, forcing her to consume acid.
According to information, the incident was reported on June 30 from Indore’s Chandan Nagar area E Sector and the woman was identified as Saina Bi.
She was then rushed to the hospital in critical condition but died during treatment.
Since it was a suspicious death of a newly married woman, the investigation was handed over to police.
Based on the findings, police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against Saina’s husband Taufiq Mansoori (a resident of Khandwa), his mother Hamida, sisters Anisha and Famida, and another relative named Arif.

Family also separated woman from her son
According to the investigation, this was Saina’s second marriage, which took place on July 21, 2023. From the beginning, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law allegedly taunted her for not bringing dowry. They reportedly demanded a gold chain and ring for Taufiq.
Adding to her stress, Saina’s 14-year-old son from her previous marriage was sent away from Khandwa to Indore, and she was threatened that he would be taken away from her.
Unable to bear the pressure, Saina returned to her parents' home and later consumed acid there. Police have recorded statements from her brother, sister-in-law, and other relatives.
Following the statements, Chandan Nagar police have filed a case against the 5 accused for abetment to suicide. The investigation is ongoing.
