Indore (Madhya Pradesh): In a remarkable step towards environmental conservation, over 51,000 saplings were planted in the Reoti Range on Saturday under ’Ek Bagiya Maa Ke Naam’ (A Garden for Mother) initiative, as part of the ongoing nationwide ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.
Union minister for environment, forest and climate change, Bhupender Yadav and state urban development and housing minister Kailash Vijayvargiya led the plantation drive, with active participation from social organizations, public representatives, students and citizens. The initiative aims to promote biodiversity, expand green cover and strengthen public involvement in ecological efforts.
Addressing the gathering, Union minister Bhupender Yadav praised Indore’s environmental efforts, saying, “Just as Indore’s cleanliness model has gained national and global recognition, its green efforts will also inspire people beyond the city. The residents have not only planted these trees in the name of their mothers but have nurtured and preserved them. The Reoti Range has become a priceless gift to the Earth, a living example of green commitment. These saplings are not just plants, but a sacred offering to nature.”
Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya echoed the sentiment, calling last year’s plantation of over 12.4 lakh saplings a world record. “The concept of ‘maa’ is infinite in love and sacrifice. Though the word is small, its meaning is profound. Planting trees in her name and watching them survive is our true tribute. The Reoti Range has turned into a peaceful green paradise due to consistent efforts by our team.”
Garden in charge Rajendra Rathore informed that this drive was an extension of the campaign initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Mohan Yadav. Last year, a record plantation of over 12 lakh saplings was carried out in the same hill range, many of which have survived and flourished, making it a symbol of environmental success.
