Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) on Saturday demolished portion of as many as 18 illegal and dilapidated structures along Sanjay Setu in South Toda as part of its ongoing anti-encroachment and public safety drive. The action was carried out under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Shivam Verma and supervision of Additional Commissioner Rohit Sisonia.

According to Building Officer Gitesh Tiwari and Building Inspector Zeeshan Chishti of Zone 11, the targeted structures were found to be not only unauthorized but also in a severely dangerous condition, posing a threat to public safety.

The properties belonged to several individuals and local entities, including Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Akhtar (150 South Toda), Mohammad Rafiq (132 South Toda), Mohammad Shaheed (147 South Toda), Abdul Rahim (132 South Toda), Mehndi Hasan (146 South Toda), Sheikh Nazir (132 South Toda), Martand Rao Kale, Ashfaq Hussain, Gabru Bee (wife of Mohammad Ansari), Abdul Rajik Ansari (126), Abdul Azim Ansari (127), Abdul Aziz Ansari (128), Akhtar Bee Ansari (129), Anjuman Committee (131), Dr. Hannu Ansari (125), Mohammad Sehzad (147/2), and Mohammad Azam and Mohammad Akram (154 South Toda), among others.

Many of these structures were built at considerable heights and were located dangerously close to the road, which sees high pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Due to their precarious condition and elevated position, these buildings posed a serious risk, especially during the monsoon season.

There was a genuine fear that they could collapse during heavy rains. To prevent any such incident, IMC undertook this removal action proactively before the onset of intense rainfall. The operation required extra caution and safety measures by the IMC team throughout the process.

The demolition was executed using two poclain machines and four JCBs. The drive was carried out in the presence of Removal In-charge Bablu Kalyan, IMC staff, and officials from the district and police administration.

IMC officials stated that similar actions will continue against unauthorized and hazardous constructions across the city in the interest of public safety and urban regulation compliance.
