Indore (Madhya Pradesh): With the monsoon approaching, municipal commissioner Shivam Verma has issued a stern warning that any complaints of dirty water supply would lead to disciplinary action against the engineers responsible.

All complaints related to water contamination must be resolved on a priority basis, especially before the onset of the monsoon, he said.

“Every officer and engineer must act with urgency. Restoration and preventive work are not optional—they are critical to ensure the city is rain-ready and water-secure,” said Verma at a meeting held at Smart City Office.

He also instructed that a survey should be held across the city to identify dried-up borewells, wells and stepwells and they should be converted into rainwater recharge points, targeting the revival of over 700 borewells that dried up this year.

He also issued strict directives to ensure that all restoration work under the AMRUT Yojana and water supply projects are completed before the monsoon.

Verma said that restoration work in all areas, including within colonies, must be completed on priority to avoid complications during the rainy season. He added that storm water lines for newly proposed roads in the master plan must be laid along the sides of the roads, while utility lines such as electricity and water should be strategically placed on footpaths to prevent future road excavation.

In a major step toward sustainable water management, Verma directed the formation of recharge points near storm water drains to harness rainwater for groundwater recharge.
