Indore (Madhya Pradesh): IDA’s ambitious project of constructing a convention centre with a seating capacity of 10,000 people proposed to be developed on the Super Corridor has been stuck at the proposal stage for the past two years over permission issues.

A few years ago, the Authority had allotted its valuable land on the Super Corridor to the government and then it was given to IT companies through the government, in which 100 acres of land was given to one company and 130 acres of land to another.

However, the government later acquired additional land from these two companies. But it was not returned to the authority and in lieu of the 230 acres of land given by the IDA, the Revenue Department allotted 225 acres of land in Chhota Bangarda and Nainod to the Authority under Scheme 172, which has proved to be useless till now, because the IDA has not actually been able to acquire these lands.

According to information the Revenue Department gave the Forest Department's land to the IDA, on which a dispute is still going on. The Forest Department does not want to give up possession of this land and discussions have been held several times over the land.

Thus the Convention Center project remains on hold. IDA officials said that the project is still under discussion for the land issue and it is expected that in a few months, a solution would be arrived at.

Shivraj’s promise

During the Pravasi Bharatiya Conference held in January 2023, the need for a large convention centre with modern facilities was badly felt. At that time, due to overcrowding at the Brilliant Convention Centre, many guests had to remain outside the hall.

The then Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that a convention centre with a seating capacity of 10,000 would be built and its responsibility was handed over to the Indore Development Authority (IDA). The IDA earmarked the land for the centre but the government did not agree with the IDA's land use change proposal.
