Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Indore Municipal Corporation carried out a anti-plastic drive in Zone No 12, seizing large quantities of non-standard and banned plastic carry bags and imposing hefty spot fines totaling Rs 1.35 lakh.

The special inspection campaign targeted the New Loha Mandi area, a commercial zone known for warehousing and logistics.

During the operation, 11 sacks of banned plastic carry bags were confiscated from Krishna Road Lines, resulting in a spot fine of Rs 35,000.

In a more serious violation, the team also intercepted a vehicle owned by Ajit Pahuja, from which around 1 ton of illegal plastic carry bags were seized. The IMC slapped a spot fine of Rs 1 lakh for this infraction.

The civic body said it is continuing with such enforcement drives across the city to ensure compliance with plastic ban regulations. "This is part of our sustained effort to protect the environment and align Indore with national and global sustainability goals," said municipal commissioner Shivam Verma.

The IMC has asked businesses, vendors and citizens to avoid the use of banned plastic materials and switch to eco-friendly alternatives, warning that violations will attract strict penalties without exception.
