Indore (Madhya Pradesh): On the occasion of the 300th birth anniversary of Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar, a women’s empowerment marathon was organised early Sunday morning, beginning from the historic Rajwada. The event was a tribute to the legacy of Ahilyabai Holkar and aimed at promoting women empowerment.
The event commenced with a Zumba session led by a team of women on stage, in which many women from the audience joined enthusiastically. Vrinda Gaur, the event in-charge, stated that the marathon was a tribute to both the strength of women and the inspiration of Devi Ahilyabai.
Starting at 6:00 AM, the marathon saw active participation from sports organisations, local citizens, BSF personnel, women and young girls. Many coaching class students also joined the initiative. Along the route, participants were provided with water and dry fruits to stay energised.
The run concluded at Regal Square, where participants were awarded certificates. The event was attended by several political figures including MLAs Golu Shukla, Mahendra Hardia, Madhu Verma and MP Shankar Lalwani. Minister Tulsi Silawat and mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav arrived at the venue at the end of the marathon. Speaking at the event, MLA Golu Shukla said, “This marathon is organised to honour the birth anniversary of Devi Ahilyabai and to celebrate women’s strength and service.”
According to BJP media in-charge Ritesh Tiwari, several events are scheduled throughout the week as part of the 300th birth anniversary celebrations. The lineup includes a painting competition on Tuesday, netball competition on Wednesday, public representatives’ conference and grand musical drama “Shri Yogini Ahilya” on Thursday, a speech and traffic awareness programme on Friday and a grand procession on Saturday.
