Khandwa (Madhya Pradesh): A 24-year-old guest lecturer, Priya Yadav, died by suicide at her rented accommodation in Punasa, Khandwa on Friday, following a dispute with her boyfriend over marriage.
Priya, a native of Rewa, was working at the local ITI college and was in a relationship with 24-year-old Sapan Yadav, a student of the same institute’s Mechanical branch.
According to police, Sapan was present in the house when Priya took the extreme step. He rushed her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
In his statement, Sapan told police the two had been in a relationship for about a year. Their families were aware of it as both belonged to the same caste. On Friday, Priya brought up the topic of marriage, but Sapan said he wanted to become financially stable first. This led to a heated argument.
After the quarrel, Priya went into another room. Moments later, she was found hanging.

Sapan said he had been recovering from jaundice at his village and had come to Punasa on Priya’s request on Thursday, spending the night at her place.
No suicide note was found at the scene, confirmed Punasa outpost in-charge Rajendra Sayyade.
Priya’s family in Rewa was devastated. Her sister Priyanka said she received a call from Priya on Thursday evening but missed it. When she tried calling back on Friday, the phone was switched off.
Her brother Rajeev recalled Priya calling him and making him speak to someone claiming to be a teacher at the ITI. Priya had joined as guest faculty in 2024. The youngest of five siblings, her death has left the family shattered.
Police have initiated further investigation and have recorded statements from both families.
