Alot (Madhya Pradesh): Water Resources Department initiated legal action against four individuals on Tuesday for their involvement in the illegal excavation of a canal from Bagunia Pond, which was constructed for irrigation purposes.

As per reports, the incident came to light when sub-engineer Vijay Kumar Marmat received a tip-off regarding unauthorised digging activities.

Marmat, accompanied by his team, including Amin Darshan Kumar Bisrotia and pond's caretaker Bhanwar Singh, visited the site to investigate the allegations on Tuesday.

They discovered that some farmers were digging a canal to divert water from the pond to their fields without any permission. This unauthorised activity poses a serious risk to the integrity of the pond, potentially leading to significant damage and even loss of life in the village.

When they reached the spot, the team discovered that a JCB machine was actively digging the trench. They seized the JCB machine and also a tractor-trolley that was being used to transport the excavated material. The sub-engineer said that such reckless actions could jeopardise the pond's stability which can lead to catastrophic consequences for the locals.

The copy of Panchnama made by sub-engineer and other employees and villagers, along with an application to file an FIR against the individuals involved in illegal excavation, was handed over to Alot police station in-charge Shankar Singh Chauhan. They demanded action against JCB owner Dilip Singh Rajput, of Bhutia village, Devilal Patidar, of Manunia and two farmers Jagannath Patidar and Bablesh Patidar, of Ranayra Tal.

The police have commenced an investigation into the matter. Sub-engineer Marmat said a departmental inquiry would also be initiated into the matter.
