West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, May 29, rebuked the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a day after the dispute over a meeting with the Prime Minister to review the damage caused by Cyclone ‘Yaas’.

Her statement came after the BJP-led central government, in a letter, prompted West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandhopadhyay to join the Department of Personnel and Training under the Government of India by May 31.

Asking PM Modi to withdraw the letter she said “In the wake of ongoing pandemic I have asked for Alapan’s extension on May 10 and on May 24 I have received an affirmation letter from the central government. I urge them to withdraw the letter of May 28 where Alapan is being asked to go to Delhi. Alapan is a good hand and we need him to safeguard the people of West Bengal,” claimed Mamata.

When asked whether the TMC will move court, Mamata said that she is aware that the central government has filed a caveat in court and if need be then the TMC government will move the court.

“The BJP cannot accept the landslide victory of the TMC for which they are trying to take revenge from us,” alleged Mamata.

TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh accused the BJP of indulging in ‘revenge’ politics, despite the pandemic with the ruling Trinamool Congress.

West Bengal BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu, however, said that there were no politics involved in the decision.
