A video of a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) woman officer, posted in Jammu and Kashmir, breaking down in tears has surfaced online. The cause of her distress, she alleges, is police inaction in a robbery case filed by her family in Tamil Nadu.

The officer has been identified as 32-year-old Kalavathi. A complaint was lodged on 24 June, reporting the theft of 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery, ₹50,000 in cash, and a silk saree that Kalavathi had set aside for her wedding. However, she claims that the local police have failed to take timely action.

The video, which has since gone viral on social media, shows the officer tearfully recounting the theft and expressing frustration over the lack of response from the police.

In the video, Kalavathi says the burglary occurred at her family home in Narayanapuram village, near Ponnai, on 24 June. At the time of the incident, no one was home; her father and brother were working on their farm, while her mother had gone out to graze cattle.

Politics Brew Over Viral Video

BJP leader and former state unit chief, K. Annamalai, has reacted to the video, slamming Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and the DMK government.

"A CRPF jawan from Tamil Nadu, serving with honour at our nation’s borders in J&K, is forced to take to social media on police inaction on the case of jewellery theft from her residence near Katpadi in June this year," the post on X read.

"What kind of governance forces a woman in uniform to beg for justice online while wearing the nation's flag on her shoulder? This is not just lawlessness, it’s the DMK’s model of governance, where criminals roam free and the protectors of our nation plead for help. Wake up, Thiru @mkstalin," he added.

Police Responds

Responding to the viral video, the police said a case was registered on June 25 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, and that fingerprint samples and CCTV footage were collected.

Police further said, they also used tower dump technology to retrieve suspects’ cellphone call data records (CDRs). On June 29, the complainant reportedly revised his statement to say that the stolen jewellery weighed 22.5 sovereigns.

The police further stated that Kalavathi’s  father Kumarasamy had raised suspicion against Santosh, who was earlier married to Kalavathi and later divorced. They asserted that the probe was underway without delay and rejected Kalavathi’s claim that there was a delay in filing the FIR.
