Who Is Usman Khan? Jaipur Hit-And-Run Accused, With Links To Congress, Arrested For Killing 3 People

Jaipur: A shocking case of drunk driving rocked Jaipur on Monday (April 7) night after a 62-year-old man reportedly ploughed his SUV through pedestrians and vehicles over a 7-kilometre stretch, killing three people and severely injuring six others.

The driver, identified as Usman Khan, has been arrested, and an FIR has been registered against him based on a complaint filed by the father of one of the deceased victims.

Who Is Usman Khan?

According to reports, Usman Khan, a resident of Rana Colony in Shastri Nagar, is a factory owner whose unit in the Vishwakarma Industrial Area manufactures iron beds. He has also served as the Vice President of the Jaipur City District Congress Committee.

The police reported that the rampage took place when Khan’s SUV first struck a scooter near the Santosh Mata Temple on the MI Road. Instead of stopping the vehicle, he accelerated, hitting more pedestrians and parked vehicles, while driving recklessly near the Nahargarh police station. His car was finally brought to a halt by locals and the police after it got wedged into a narrow lane.

A medical examination confirmed that at the time of the incident, Khan was heavily intoxicated. Following widespread outrage, the Congress reportedly expelled him from his position and the party.

3 Casualties Reported in Hit-and-Run Case

The three people who lost their lives in the hit-and-run case have been identified as Mamta Kanwar (50), Awadhesh Pareek (37), and Virendra Singh (48). Among the six injured, one is a teenager and another an elderly man; who are all currently being treated at the trauma ward of the SMS Hospital.

Amidst the controversy, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Balmukund Acharya has accused Khan of intentionally causing the deaths and called for stringent punishment against him, alleging political shielding. The investigation is currently underway.
