New Delhi: A high-voltage drama is likely to take place in Parliament as the debate on Operation Sindoor will begin today. Ahead of the fiery Parliament session, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju set the tone for the debate with his 'Laxman Rekha' post.

Giving a reference of Ramayan, Rijiju said in his X post, "Discussion on #OperationSindoor to begin today... When Ravan crossed the Laxman Rekha, Lanka burned. When Pakistan crossed the red lines drawn by India, terrorist camps faced the fire!"

According to sources, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will lead the charge for the treasury benches. There are also indications that PM Narendra Modi may intervene in the discussion to underscore the government’s “robust” stance against terrorism.

On the Opposition side, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha respectively, are likely to spearhead the attack.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav questioned the Centre for not being able to capture the terrorists who carried out the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which triggered India's massive response against terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).

"In the Pahalgam case, what happened to the terrorists involved? Did they vanish into thin air? Where exactly are those terrorists? The government must answer this," Yadav said as quoted by News18.

Rijiju announced on July 25 that both sides had agreed to begin discussions on the Pahalgam attack in the Lok Sabha on Monday and in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. A marathon debate has been scheduled in each House — though such debates often stretch even longer.

The Opposition will target the Narendra Modi government over US President Donald Trump's claim of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Gandhi has repeatedly questioned the government's foreign policy, claiming that India failed to gain international backing for Operation Sindoor.

Pahalgam Terror Attack And Operation Sindoor:

On April 22, five to six Pakistan-backed terrorists opened fire on people enjoying their vacations at Baisaran meadow near Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam killing 26 people. Among the deceased was also a Nepali citizen. As per eyewitnesses, the terrorists singled out non-Muslims and shot them dead. One local pony guide also died in the attack. Initially, Pakistan-based terror organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba's (leT) offshoot, The Resistance Front (TRF), claimed responsibility. However, it denied its role days later.

On the intervening night of May 6 and 7, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor and targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and the PoK. Pakistan tried to attack Indian civilian and military installations. However, India's air defence thwarted the attack. On the intervening night of May 9 and 10, India hit 11 Pakistani air bases.

Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) on May 10 contacted his Indian counterpart and requested a ceasefire.
