Kolkata: Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari along with 49 BJP MLAs on Monday met Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to discuss ways of implementing ‘anti-defection law’ in the state and also spoke on the alleged rising of post-poll violence in West Bengal.

Notably, ever since Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took oath on May 5, Governor Dhankhar has been extremely vocal on the post-poll violence.

After meeting the BJP MLAs, Dhankhar said that he is extremely saddened to see the rising of post-poll violence in the state.

“I have visited places like Nandigram and other violence-affected areas and was petrified to see their condition,” claimed Dhankhar.

Addressing the media, Suvendu said that if necessary he will move the Supreme Court regarding the violence and anti-defection law.

According to sources, Suvendu has also spoken about defection of Mukul Roy that led to several more defections and also on Mukul not leaving the MLA post.

It can be recalled that the rejoining of BJP national vice-president to the TMC fold has upset several BJP cadres and even now they want to rejoin the ruling party.

Incidentally on Monday, according to TMC sources it was learnt that Mukul Roy will not leave his MLA post of Krishnanagar (North) seat as he didn’t receive any official letter from the BJP.

According to Suvendu, implementation of anti-defection law is necessary as that is part of democracy.

“In last 10 years several people have defected from different political parties even without abiding by the anti-defection law. Now it is necessary to implement this law and if necessary we will move the Supreme Court on this,” claimed the Leader of Opposition.

Alleging that the post-poll violence is turning into communal violence, Suvendu said that since May 2 the post-poll violence is leading to communal tension and people of SC-ST community are being mostly heckled.

“SC-ST development team will soon inspect the violent prone areas. Even a month after the poll result 17,000 BJP cadres are still displaced. Mamata Banerjee said during poll campaigns that she will give pocket money to women but the scenario is that rape and atrocities against women across the state has been common post May 2,” added Suvendu.

The BJP Nandigram MLA also alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress had slapped over 3000 false cases on BJP cadres and leaders and also that soon he will move the apex court demanding CBI inquiry on the cases.
