Kolkata: Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari on Friday alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) supported miscreants to attack Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supporters on Thursday while they were on their way to attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s public meeting at Alipurduar.

Addressing a press conference, Adhikari also urged that the nation Election Commission should not club West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections with other states.

“The TMC goons had vandalised 34 vehicles and injured 22 BJP workers to prevent them from reaching the Prime Minister’s rally. The language that TMC used against the PM is appalling and is threatening. It is clear that free and fair election is not possible in West Bengal. I urge that the EC should club this state’s election with other states,” said Adhikari.

Notably, West Bengal is scheduled to go for Assembly elections in 2026. Elections are also scheduled in Bihar, Assam and Kerala.

The Leader of Opposition also slammed the TMC government over the high electricity rates.

“The per unit cost of electricity has gone up since 2011. According to the Electricity Act and related regulations, smart meter installation is optional, not mandatory. Many political leaders take commission over installation of smart meters from private agencies. In places like Garden Reach, Mominpur power is hacked. We will organize an awareness drive that smart meters are optional,” further added Adhikari.
