Kolkata: After Congress, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) Supremo Mamata Banerjee on Friday had urged that the central government should call for a special session of Parliament to inform the common people ‘about the recent conflict and the evolving developments’.

Taking to X, posting a picture of the national flag, Mamata wrote, “I am glad to see all-party delegation visiting various countries as part of India’s global outreach against terrorism. As I have consistently maintained, the AITC stands firmly behind any step the Union takes in the national interest and in defence of our sovereignty. I urge the Union Government to convene a special session of Parliament upon the safe return of the delegation, as I believe the people of this great nation have the foremost right to be informed about the recent conflict and the evolving developments - BEFORE ANYONE ELSE.”

Countering the claims of the Chief Minister, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Shamik Bhattacharya said, “The language of Congress and Trinamool Congress are the same. Mamata Banerjee could not drop the name of Congress from her party’s name.”

Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari asked for a special session in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly over the attack of Hindu families in Murshidabad.

“Why don’t you convene a Special Session of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly to discuss and address the horrific anti-Hindu communal violence in Murshidabad district? The gruesome murders of Haragobinda Das and Chandan Das in Murshidabad are a stain on West Bengal’s conscience. The Hon'ble Calcutta High Court’s three-member committee report has exposed and indicted TMC leaders for their shocking involvement at the site of violence, raising serious questions about your party’s role in orchestrating this brutality,” (sic) said Adhikari.

Meanwhile, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 29, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit West Bengal on May 31.
