Delhi: A 19-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times by a man in the Kirbi Place bus stop area of Southwest Delhi on Sunday, just days ahead of her birthday. The girl was attacked in full public view and the matter was reported to police around 9.30 pm Sunday by a passerby. The victim has been identified as Vijaylaxmi. She is currently battling for her life at a hospital.
"The girl sustained serious injuries to her neck and the left side of the abdomen. A knife was recovered from the scene. Both were hospitalised and are under treatment," the officer said as quoted by PTI. Initial investigation revealed that the accused, Amit, and the victim girl had been friends since last year and they had a dispute over some issue.
Notably, the 20-year-old accused, also injured himself with the same knife with which he attacked Vijaylaxmi. The incident was recorded on CCTV installed in the area.

On the day of the incident, Vijaylaxmi left for work in the morning. "Like every day, she left for work in the morning," said Shobha, the victim's mother, told The Times of India. "She told us she was saving money to celebrate her birthday properly this year. We were all waiting for her to return home so that we could hear her talk all about it," Shobha added.
Vikaylaxmi lives with her 40-year-old mother, two sisters of 25 and 20 years of age and a 16-year-old brother Raghuvender, reported TOI. As per the report, the victim's father had abandoned her family and her mother took up domestic work. Vijaylaxmi's elder sisters were married.
Her elder sister told the media house that Vijaylaxmi loved dressing up and making reels. Meanwhile, Raghuvender said that he knew that Amit liked his sister and even warned her about it. I knew Amit liked her and I warned her to be careful. I never thought it would go this far," he told TOI.
Raghuvender further revealed that both Vijaylaxmi and Amit worked in nearby shops and had known each other for a year.
A video, purportedly of the incident, made rounds on social media. The 45-second clip shows the man and the woman sitting on the road divider in a bloodied state and a crowd of passersby gathered around them.
A detailed investigation has been launched into the matter.
