A disturbing video has emerged from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, showing a group of Kanwariyas violently beating a man with sticks while police officers stand by. The incident occurred when Kanwariyas travelling from Haridwar to Delhi with Gangajal reached Shiv Chowk, where a motorcycle allegedly brushed against them.
Enraged by the contact, the Kanwariyas reportedly assaulted the biker and severely damaged his vehicle. The altercation caused significant unrest in the area, prompting local police to intervene and attempt to calm the situation.
The viral video shows Kanwariyas vandalising the motorcycle while the biker appears to retaliate by hitting them with his helmet.
One Kanwariya claimed this wasn't an isolated incident, alleging that motorcycles had previously collided with their water pots multiple times. He criticised the administration for failing to close roads despite repeated requests, stating the biker had caused sacred Gangajal to spill by hitting their water container.
City CO Raju Kumar Sahu confirmed that CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation. Police have detained the biker for questioning and managed to disperse the Kanwariyas after calming tensions. Authorities have implemented traffic diversions to prevent further incidents, though the episode has created an atmosphere of fear among locals.
